St James Church
St James Church is evangelical* in tradition ( * see note at bottom of page) and open to the transforming work of the Holy Spirit in our lives.
Everyone is encouraged to grow in Christian faith and then to play a part in the church community and in sharing faith in their neighbourhood.
The church has a mixture of ages and families are really welcome.
There are baby changing facilities, informal children’s activities and a carpeted play area for toddlers.
Older children are encouraged to attend a small Sunday school.
Our weekly services are usually relaxed with contemporary music and offer opportunities to participate in prayer and worship.
Once a month a Holy Communion service is also held here.
At various points in the church year, special services are also held – for example, Memorial services to remember loved ones who have died, and services to celebrate Ash Wednesday, Easter, Harvest, Remembrance, Advent, Christingle, and Christmas.
You are very welcome to join us and we really look forward to seeing you.
Please also see our monthly notices sheet for details of all that is happening at St James.

What does ‘Evangelical’ mean?
The most widely accepted description of what evangelical means is that used by historian, David Bebbington.
He suggests that evangelical Christians believe in four essential doctrines:
to be saved a person must have a “born again” conversion experience Jesus’s death on the cross atones for mankind’s sins;
the Bible is the ultimate spiritual authority;
Christians ought to actively share their faith through witnessing and good works
